This wedding in Dubai had all the enchantment of one, poured into a bottle of magic!

Asma and Stefan

Dubai based Stephan Muller is the son of former Mumbai supermodel Vanessa Vaz, and grandson of Iona Pinto (India’s first Miss World). He runs his own business managing global athletes’ brand partnerships and investments and frequently organises sports events in Dubai. He got talking to Asma Al Aloosi who frequented the events as she works in the Marketing department of Nike. Sure enough, all it took was an evening with common friends for sparks to fly between them, and soon they were head over heels in love. Stephan proposed in the most romantic way whereby he filled his apartment with flowers and candles and waited for Asma to walk in down a candlelit path at the end of which he waited on one knee to pop the big question. After she said yes, they celebrated at their favorite restaurant Il Borro and toasted to great times ahead, together.

When asked why they chose Dubai as their wedding destination, Asma ardently replies, “Dubai chose us! We have both grown up here and are third generation kids of our respective families. Dubai has treated us both very well. Additionally, a large part of our family and friends are based here. Although, our guests who attended came all the way from Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Wales, Russia, the U.S., Canada and India to name a few!” They stuck to 100 guests at the wedding while the events such as the Goan Roce, the signing and the after-party at the Indian-fusion restaurant Masti, had only their very close family and friends in attendance. Some of the guests included style diva Aarti and husband Ad-man Kailash Surendranath, dear friends of the family who flew down from Mumbai to be part of the nuptials.

Although they were keen on celebrating their wedding in South Africa, Covid presented many challenges before them. Thankfully the UAE eased restrictions and allowed guests from countries outside. About their choice of wedding venue, Asma tells us, “Considering that Dubai was the place we grew up in, we wanted a place that felt and appeared exotic, and the moment we stumbled upon Melia Desert Palm, we just knew that it was a match made in heaven!”

When asked about the challenges of planning the wedding considering their mixed cultures, Asma tells us, “Planning this wedding was a challenge for multiple reasons. More so, considering that both our sides hail from very different cultures. We were keen to involve the best of both our cultures and backgrounds.” She further enunciates, “We did the Katb El-Kitab, the Roce, walking down the aisle, exchanging rings and vows, a first dance – all these were an interesting mix of cultures and backgrounds that usually clash. Instead, in this wedding, all came together and respected the respective traditions.”

A wedding that was truly sophisticated and yet heart-warming, Asma took to Instagram and drew inspiration to design her own wedding dress, a gorgeous Grecian outfit in snow white.

She looked like a vision even as she complimented the dapper Stephan who looked truly royal in his Nehru bandhgala suit.
