Known for his signature blend of creativity, precision, and passion, Pawan Mirchandani, co-founder of Horizon WIE, has redefined the art of destination wedding planning. Horizon WIE is celebrated for its full-service approach that encompasses décor, logistics, hospitality, and gifting, ensuring that every celebration is envisioned and executed as a seamless, emotionally rich experience.
Among Pawan’s many extraordinary projects, few compare to the lavish celebration of Kaabia Grewal, co-founder of Outhouse Jewellery, and Rushang Shah, hosted at the breathtaking JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa in Vietnam. Designed by Bill Bensley, this award-winning beachfront property, often described as an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ dreamscape, set the stage for a wedding that was nothing short of a visual and emotional spectacle. While we’ve seen many grand Indian weddings, this one stood apart for how beautifully it reflected the couple’s personalities and daring aesthetic. Moreover, it put Vietnam, with its lush landscapes, pristine beaches, and warm hospitality, firmly on the radar for Indian couples seeking destinations that combine natural beauty with world-class luxury. With its versatility and charm, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa proved to be the perfect canvas for Horizon WIE’s artistry and vision.
Beyond the resort, Phu Quoc Island brought its own quiet magic to the celebration. With its pristine beaches, lush landscapes, and sense of privacy, it offered an elegant balance of nature and luxury. Adding to its appeal, Indian travellers can enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days when arriving directly from abroad, making it a seamless choice for destination celebrations.
In this exclusive conversation with Parthip Thyagarajan, CEO of WeddingSutra, Pawan shares insights on the extravagant union, from the couple’s vision to the magic of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa:
Parthip: Vietnam isn’t the first country that comes to mind for an Indian wedding. Why did you and the couple choose it — and how did it surprise everyone?
Pawan: It was the groom Rushang’s father who first envisioned a celebration that moved away from convention, one that felt close to nature yet full of life. Inspired by his vision for something truly unique, the family chose JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa as the perfect setting to bring it to life. With its lush tropical setting and whimsical design, the resort emerged as the perfect canvas to bring that imaginative vision to life. It’s a fabulous property, the hospitality, the university-inspired design, the venues, everything was unbelievable. And of course, Kaabia was a creative genius. Her ideas, her vision… truly exceptional. I can’t take all the credit; she knew exactly what she wanted. It was one- of- a- kind union, in fact, the first Indian wedding of that scale in Vietnam. People were flown in from Paris and across the world. It was beautiful, grand, and yet so thoughtfully curated.
Parthip: JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa is often called an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ property. Which hidden corners or quirky spaces became unforgettable wedding backdrops?
Pawan: The property itself is a wonderland! Every space has its own story. The Lamarck House villa, with 7 bedrooms, became a hub of celebration, especially for after-parties. There’s a shell-shaped pool at the resort, which has the potential to become the heart of many festivities like the mehendi and sangeet. Every nook lent itself to a new mood, from whimsical outdoor lawns to intimate courtyards, and it allowed us to create experiences that felt both surreal and personal.
Parthip: For families planning destination weddings, logistics are the biggest fear. How did the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa team help make sure 200+ guests felt taken care of?
Pawan: The JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa team was phenomenal. For a destination like Vietnam, where large-scale Indian weddings were relatively new, the way they adapted to our needs was commendable. From customised menus to seamless airport transfers and guest check-ins, they ensured every moment was effortless. Their attention to detail, right from managing décor setups to coordinating with our on-ground teams, made all the difference. The staff genuinely went out of their way to make our guests feel at home, which is rare and special.
Parthip: From a Mad Mansion Party to pearly-white beach pheras — what was that one jaw-dropping moment when even you stopped and said, this is magic?
Pawan: The Mad Mansion Party. That was outstanding. The way it was curated was absolutely mind-blowing! With the lighting, the ambience, and the entry, even I didn’t expect it to turn out that magical. It was a jaw-dropping moment for all of us. The venue came alive with mirror and light installations, futuristic bars, and surrealist seating set against a disco-pink palette. Performers adorned in glittering 1920s-style cabaret costumes and feathered headgear added a dramatic flair. The night unfolded like a scene from a dream, bold, whimsical, and full of heart.
Parthip: If you had 30 seconds to pitch JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa as a dream wedding venue to an Indian family, what would you say?
Pawan: I’ve pitched it to many clients since! If you want something different, something visionary – this is the property for you. It’s not for everyone; it’s for those who can truly imagine and appreciate design, creativity, and service at another level. The hospitality is impeccable, the backdrops are extraordinary, and the experience – unforgettable!
