Hydrogen Peroxide is such a versatile product! It’s readily available from chemists, some supermarkets and is cheap to buy.

Most people know of Peroxide being used to lighten or blonde hair but did you know that it can be used around the home also? Here are 10 other uses to try.

Toothbrush Care

Have you ever thought about the germs that reside on your trusty toothbrush? Keep it clean and free of germs by soaking it in 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.

Laundry

Adding a cup of Hydrogen Peroxide to a load of whites works extremely well. If there is a tough stain like blood on the clothing, pour some Peroxide straight onto the spot and leave it to sit for a minute. Then rub it and rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.

Using Peroxide instead of Bleach will ensure the clothes stay white and don’t yellow. It also stops the chlorination of clothes so they won’t wear out or perish quickly like they do with excessive bleach use.

Chopping Board Care

Clean your timber chopping boards by pouring Hydrogen Peroxide over it then follow up with White Vinegar.

Doing this will kill virtually all Salmonella, Shigella, and E. coli bacteria on even heavily contaminated surfaces!

Germ/Odour killer

Does your kitchen sponge smell a little nasty? You may not need to throw it away; it might just need a clean! Make up a 50/50 mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide and warm water in a shallow bowl, place the sponge in the solution and leave it to sit for around 15 minutes. Remove and rinse thoroughly. The sponge will now be free of the odour and the germs that cause them.

Sweat Stains

Remove sweat marks from clothing by adding a mixture of 1 part dish liquid to 2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide to the stain. Leave to sit for around an hour then rinse it (and the stain) away with cold water.

Watering Your Plants

If you are a serial over-waterer, this is for you! Mix approximately 30ml of Hydrogen Peroxide with 1 litre of water and water your plants. This will oxygenate the soil, help stave off root rot and enhance root growth and development all at once!

Keep cut flowers for longer

Add around ¼ cup of Hydrogen Peroxide to a medium-sized vase and it will extend the life of most flowers by a week! It will also keep the water quality in the vase stable meaning less water changes too!

Toilet Cleaner

Put straight 3% Hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and spray the bowl, sides, under the rim and into the water and leave it to sit for a few minutes then simply flush.
