Every person might have experienced cold feet at some point in life. The coldness may be felt internally in the feet or the feet may be cold to touch or both. It may just be occurring as a normal response of the body to change in temperature and is temporary. When a person faces a cold environment the blood vessels in the hands and feet constrict resulting in reduced blood flow to these areas. It diverts the blood flow from hands and feet to more vital organs (like heart, brain, lungs) and keeps them warm. Homeopathic medicines for cold feet target the root cause behind it and bring about symptomatic relief. Homeopathic medicines for cold feet

But it may also be indicative of some health conditions. It can arise from various causes. One of the main reasons behind it is poor blood circulation. It may occur in persons having a sedentary lifestyle, or someone who spends a lot of time seated and has an inactive lifestyle. It results in decreased blood circulation to the lower limbs resulting in cold feet. Next poor circulation may arise from smoking tobacco. Another reason that may lead to reduced circulation is high blood cholesterol. Lastly it may occur from some of the heart conditions in which the heart has to work hard to supply blood all over the body at a good speed. Second cause behind cold feet is excessive stress and anxiety. When a person is under stress or anxiety then adrenaline is pumped into the bloodstream. It results in constriction of the blood vessels at the periphery of the body causing reduced blood flow to the extremities making them cold.

Third cause of cold feet is diabetes. High blood sugar levels can cause the arteries to get narrow leading to reduced blood supply to the tissues. Diabetes also leads to nerve damage from very high blood sugar for an extended time period. Other attending symptoms that may be present with cold feet in diabetics includes numbness, prickling sensation and tingling in the feet. Next cause is anaemia ( refers to a condition where a person has a decreased level of healthy red blood cells in the body). Hypothyroidism (means an under active thyroid which is unable to produce the right amount of the thyroid hormones) is yet another cause for this. It causes issues in the body and can lead to feeling of coldness all over the body including the feet . Other than this it can arise from nerve damage that can arise from trauma, injury, diabetes and frostbite. Damage to peripheral nerves can also happen from liver disease or kidney disease, autoimmune diseases, alcoholism and lack of certain vitamins. Another reason is peripheral artery disease (PAD) in which the blood flow to legs and feet is obstructed or slowed down.

Lastly it can arise from Raynaud’s disease in which the body overreacts to cold and results in coldness and numbness of fingers and toes. These also appear pale and then blue and when they get warm again they turn red in colour.

Symptoms

It may be accompanied with tingling, numbness or pins – and – needles sensation in the feet depending on the cause behind it. The colour of the foot may be red, purple blue or pale white. Weakness and pain in the feet can also attend sometimes.
