Here’s a discouraging fact: You’re probably not as healthy as you think you are.

According to a long line of psychological studies, we tend to see ourselves as better than we are. Social scientists call this the Better-Than-Average Effect. We’re compelled to put our best face forward and suppress our inadequacies. We look like we have it together on the outside even when we don’t have it together on the inside.

The last year and a half has shown how important it is to take care of ourselves emotionally, physically, relationally, and spiritually. How? First Peter 5:7 says to cast “all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”

Here at Focus on the Family we want to infuse your life with healing and restoration through trusted Christian perspectives. To that end, we’ve invited author Debra Fileta to be our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “What to Do When You’re Not Okay” to help you better understand your emotions; to assess your mental, physical, and spiritual health; and to give you a path toward healing and wholeness.

To achieve those things, you need a proper perspective of who you are and who God has called you to be. Galatians 5:22-23 is an excellent barometer for spiritual health. It says, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

This is one of our “Best of 2021” broadcasts. Listen on your local radio station, online, on iTunes, via Podcast, or on our free phone app.

If you’re not okay and would like to speak to someone about it, give one of our counselors a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). They are available to listen and pray with you and to provide tools to help.

If Focus on the Family has helped you in the past and you would like to pay it forward, now is a great time to donate to our ministry. Generous friends are making it possible for your donation to Focus to be doubled. Which means your gift will go twice as far toward rescuing hurting marriages, equipping parents, and giving families hope. So please give today. For a gift of any amount, we’ll send you a copy of Debra Fileta’s book Are You Really OK?: Getting Real About Who You Are, How You’re Doing, and Why It Matters. Visit our website for more information.
